Do I need a Mental Health Care Plan to see a Psychologist/Social Worker?

No, you do not need a Mental Health Care Plan to see a therapist, but most people get one. A Mental Health Plan from your GP allows you to claim a rebate from Medicare which may help with the associated costs.

How many sessions can I claim from Medicare?

You are generally entitled to 10 sessions per calendar year. You will receive an initial 6 sessions, then after a review, you can ask your GP for a further 4 sessions.

Can I use my Private Health Fund?

Yes, please check with your provider that you have the correct cover. Generally, Private Health Funds do not pay as much as Medicare. Some funds will not pay for Social Worker's. Please check with your fund.

How much does it cost to see a Psychologist or Social Worker?

Fee's range from $180 to $270, depending on who you see. Each therapist has their own fee. Fee's will be discussed with you when you make your booking.

How much is the Medicare Rebate?

You will receive a rebate of $96.65 for a Psychologist, $85.20 for a Social Worker and $141.85 for a Clinical Psychologist. Rebates will be given to you at the time of your appointment. Please bring along a debit card and your Medicare card.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Each therapist will a have different cancellation policy, so please give notice that you can't attend as soon as possible, but generally please allow 24-48 hours notice. Fee's may apply for late notice.
